A few days ago Claire thanked me for her elf. She had found a little Christmas elf outside her front door. She had reason to suspect I was responsible as for the past 4 Christmas seasons I have been receiving gifts of Christmas elves from a person (or persons) unknown and sent out a Christmas letter about my elves.
Now here is the true story. I didn't give Claire that elf. Now here is the embarrassing part of the true story. I was jealous that she got the elf instead of me. Then the next day Gwen called to thank me for her elf, and she wouldn't believe me that I hadn't given her the elf. (It wasn't me.) At least by this time I had grown up enough not to feel jealous that Gwen got an elf and I didn't.
But now I am feeling a tad guilty that I am being credited with these nice deeds when I had nothing to do with them. I wonder if this is how Santa feels?
